Deep Sran Statement on Senate Healthcare Bill

Congressional Candidate Rejects Latest Draft As "Heartless"

ASHBURN – Teacher, tech entrepreneur, and candidate for Virginia's 10th Congressional District Deep Sran released the following statement today in response to the latest draft of the Senate's healthcare bill.

"The latest version of the Better Care Reconciliation Act is anything but 'better' -- it still takes health coverage away from those who need it the most in favor of tax cuts for the wealthy, just like the House version that Barbara Comstock waited until the last possible moment to oppose. The bill released today hurts poor people, hurts women, and attempts to reverse the massive gains made under Obamacare.

"Instead of hearing the concerns expressed by constituents around the country and working to improve Obamacare, Senate Republicans have followed House Republicans in crafting a heartless bill that cuts funding for Medicaid by almost $800 billion, defunds Planned Parenthood, and undermines protections for people with pre-existing conditions -- like asthma, heart conditions, and even pregnancy -- just to score political points and cater to special interests. In fact, this bill would force 331,000 of our families, friends, and neighbors living with pre-existing conditions right here in Virginia's 10th District to make impossible choices.

"America is strongest when we work together on behalf of all of us, and we've already seen the impact that we can make when we raise our voices to oppose dangerous policy. I urge all Virginians to keep speaking out against both the Senate and House bills -- and to hold Members of Congress who support repeal accountable in 2018."

The new draft of the Better Care Reconciliation Act includes proposals similar to the controversial Cruz-Lee amendment which patient groups say "could create serious access and affordability problems for any person with a pre-existing health condition, chronic disease or disability.”
