Deep Sran Statement on Graham-Cassidy Health Care Bill

Congressional Candidate Urges Virginians to Stand Up for Care

ASHBURN – Teacher, tech entrepreneur, and candidate for Virginia's 10th Congressional District Deep Sran released the following statement today in response to the latest version of the Senate's bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

"With the news this week that the Graham-Cassidy Obamacare repeal bill is gaining traction among Republican Senators now weighing whether to take health care away from millions of Americans across the country, the message to all of us is clear: we must remain vigilant in defending our care and holding our representatives accountable.

"Lawmakers of good conscience and the many constituents who made their voices heard are the reason the Affordable Care Act withstood the first two rounds of repeal efforts this year and we need to do everything in our power to ensure it survives this latest attack as well. That means calling on our elected leaders to stand up for quality affordable health care and build on the ACA, instead of disrupting our health system with another reckless repeal bill. The Graham-Cassidy bill would take health insurance from those who need it the most — the sick, the poor, and the elderly. It would drastically cut Medicaid, limit coverage for preexisting conditions, and slash protections for seniors and people with disabilities.

"This is about the kind of country we want to be and we know we deserve better from our leaders. As Congressman, I will work to expand on Obamacare and improve our heath system to ensure all Americans have access to care, and it's time for Barbara Comstock and our Senators to do the same."

The Graham-Cassidy bill would leave many Americans uninsured and would weaken or completely eliminate protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Yesterday, a bipartisan group of 10 governors wrote in opposition to the bill in a letter to the Senate. AARP came out against in the bill in a letter yesterday, as did 16 additional patient and provider organizationson Monday.
